And this is the land that we gave the Native Americans! Interesting to travel through but I would not want to call it home!
I had to ride on about 30 miles of fresh tar and chip roads. Very dusty! The Gold Wing handled it well.
Winthrop, a neat touristy town. I had a delicious lunch here.

Today I was blessed with safe travels, moderate temperatures and fair skies as I traveled 371 miles from Spokane, Washington to Surrey, British Columbia. This completes the first of four legs of my Alaskan journey. In 15 days, I've covered 5462 miles, averaging 364 miles per day. I had planned 15 travel days and 350 miles per day so I'm pleased with the actual results. I did not take any of the 3 planned rest days as I haven't stayed in a place yet that I wanted to spend more than one night.
I am so glad that I decided to travel through the Northern Cascades. Some time ago, Milly and I took Route 20 but were in fog through all the high mountainous areas. I'm so glad that it was clear and not raining for this trip. What a magnificent area.
Well, tomorrow I'm off to see new sights! Just hope that I don't get my kilometers and miles per hour confused!
